ESIP’s 20th Anniversary Conference was the opportunity to explore the European Pillar of Social Rights (EPSR) focusing on the perspectives it brings for social insurers.

We were pleased to hear the views of Marianne Thyssen, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility and Allan Larsson, Special Adviser to President Juncker on the EPSR as well as Enrique Calvet-Chambon, Member of the European Parliament, Ellen Nygren Member of the European Economic and Social Committee and Dr Franz Terwey, founder of ESIP. During the debate moderated by Irene Wintermayr from the ILO, our speakers welcomed the Commission’s initiative and insisted on the need for the EPSR to deliver for EU citizens. The exchange with the audience focused on the potential contradictions within the EPSR. Mr Larsson in response stressed that the EPSR should be business - friendly while providing good working and social conditions. Questions around the scope, legal status and rights included in the Pillar were also raised.
