ESIP and AIM oppose recent developements in standardisation of health and social services

Today, ESIP and AIM voiced its concerns in an open letter to the relevant authorities at EU and national level regarding standardisation of health and social services.

On 15 September, ESIP and AIM voiced their concerns regarding the development of market-driven standards in the field of health and social services. While EU standards on the safety of products are welcome, there is little added value to additional EU standards on the services provided by social security organisations, mutuals and health insurance funds. The focus should instead be on existing guidelines that ensure a high quality of service. An open letter was sent to the relevant standardisation authorities at EU and national level as well as to decision-makers in the EU institutions to halt this development. For a more in-depth analysis, please see ESIP’s position paper on the topic published on 14 July 2016.
