ESIP presents social insurers’ views on Universal Access to Health

ESIP’s president Arnaud Emériau presented the viewpoint of statutory social insurers on how to improve access to healthcare during the conference Universal Access: How can we contribute?, organised by Medicines for Europe.

Arnaud Emériau took part in the panel discussion of stakeholders and reminded the audience of the need to ensure the sustainability of healthcare systems and that of social health insurances. ESIP qas a representative of solidarity-based systems puts a strong emphasis on access to adequate social protection. Concerning medical treatments, it was stressed that they must be based on public health needs conceived in a broad sense. Medicines must not only be available and affordable, but also respect requirements of quality, safety, efficacy and patient relevant benefit. Finally, the support of social insurers for the uptake of generics and biosimilars was highlighted.
