ESIP's take on the recently published White Paper on Artificial Intelligence - A European approach to excellence and trust

ESIP welcomes the discussion on an ethical European approach on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) launched with today’s publication of the White Paper.

We support the adoption of an appropriate and ethical regulatory framework that will ensure the protection of fundamental rights of citizens. Human rights, such as the right to privacy, non-discrimination and human dignity must be respected throughout the development and use of AI, especially in high-risk sectors such as healthcare. In these fields, the framework must consider the ethical, technological, legal and socio-economical aspects of AI application. While artificial intelligence offers multiple opportunities, the framework must carefully respond to the risks associated with its use by respecting the principles of confidentiality and integrity.
